          22   EXT. MASS PIKE -- DAY

                 Vic's car trolls down the Pike.


          23   EXT. TOLL BOOTH -- DAY

                 The car pulls up to the toll baskets.

                 Willie and Vic sport nearly identical SUNGLASSES.
                 Willie gets out two quarters and hands them to Vic.

                 Vic rolls down his window and tosses two quarters at
                 the toll basket.

                                      VIC
                           Ahh!   Dang it!

                 THE METER LIGHT REMAINS RED.

                                      VIC (CONT'D)
                           Give me some more money.

                                      WILLIE
                           I gave you enough.

                                      VIC
                           I missed.  Give me some more change.

                                      WILLIE
                           How much do you need?

                                      VIC
                           All of it.

                                      WILLIE
                           You   missed all of it?  How could
                           you miss all of it?  The basket is
                           right there.

                                      VIC
                           Just give me the money!

                 Willie pulls out some change from his coat and hands
                 two quarters to Vic.

                 Vic leans out his window and chucks the quarters. 
                 CLINK!

                                      VIC (CONT'D)
                           Oh, Geez!

                 He reaches his hand back to Willie.

                                      VIC (CONT'D)
                           Again, again.

                                      WILLIE
                           What?   You missed again?

                                      VIC
                           I think I got one in.

                                      WILLIE
                           For the love of God.

                 Willie scrambles for more change.

                                      WILLIE (CONT'D)
                           Here.   Here's a dime and three
                           nickels.   Do them one at a time.

                                      VIC
                           I can do it.

                                      WILLIE
                           One at a time!

                 Vic tosses the dime and two of the nickels into the
                 basket.

                 CU - THE BASKET.

                 The third nickel ricochets out.

                                      VIC
                           Ahh!   Hooked it.

                                      WILLIE
                           Hooked it?  You're throwing it about
                           a foot and a half!  You can't hook
                           that!

                                      VIC
                           I just need another nickel!

                                      WILLIE
                           Back up.  Lean back!

                 Vic leans back against his seat.

                 Willie reaches across Vic and throws his whole handful
                 of change out the window.

                 Ching!   Clank!  Plunk!  The change rattles against
                 the basket.  Ding!

                 THE RED METER LIGHT TURNS GREEN.

                                      WILLIE (CONT'D)
                           Let's go!

                 Vic hits the gas and peels out.


          24   EXT. MASS PIKE -- DAY

                 Vic's car putts down the Pike in the slow lane.

                                      VIC (V.O.)
                           It coulda happened to anybody.

                                      WILLIE (V.O.)
                           I'm not saying nothin'.

                                      VIC (V.O.)
                           But it coulda.  There was a lotta
                           pressure back there.  I ain't tossed
                           a coin into a toll basket in thirty
                           years.

                                      WILLIE (V.O.)
                           I didn't say anything, did I?

                                      VIC (V.O.)
                           It was an accident.  I'm just rusty,
                           that's all.

                                      WILLIE (V.O.)
                           Pull off here, will ya.  I gotta go
                           pee.

                 Vic pulls his car off at a rest stop.
